July 22nd, 2015

It’s hard not to know this guy, Kenneth Griffin. Griffin has made his name and is a big shot within the business circles in the US, most notably in Chicago.

So what about him? Where did he start his journey to the billions? What has Griffin been doing since 1990? Where are his interests? You’ll know today.

This man went to Harvard University and got himself a Bachelors Degree. While there, he started something in his dorm room, and it has now gone global. With just a personal computer, a fax machine and a phone, Griffin started trading while in the University, and a year after his graduation, he would go on to start one of the most successful corporate institutions in the United States.

It was in 1990 when Ken Griffin founded Citadel a highly professional hedge fund organization that now manages assets worth over $25 billion. With Griffin at the helms, Citadel has grown three prongs of operations to focus on, reaching out to three different economic sectors. These branches are Citadel, Citadel Securities, and Citadel Technology.

But that’s not where his memberships end. Kenneth Griffin’s list of organizations in which he is a member cannot be exhausted, but the most notable ones are the G100, Economic Hub of Chicago, and the Commercial Club of Chicago (Member of the Civic Committee). At the University of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, you’ll find Ken Griffin on the list of the Board of Trustees.

Again, this man is a rich guy who loves giving back to the community, and that’s why you’ll hear about him pledging a ton of money towards offering scholarships to bright students in Harvard University. In fact, Mr. Griffin made his first donation to the academic institution just a year after his graduation. This year, he has done something never seen before. Ken has donated a whopping $150 million to the student scholarship kit of his alma mater. According to him, he envisions an education system where students have better access to education. These are the students that will end up changing things for the betterment of the entire community, and that’s what Griffin wants.

But he still does more. Kenneth has also been an instrumental figure in the US political environment, taking the role of a reliable donor only to those candidates that he deems focused on doing well for Americans. It is remembered that this man gave out a $2.5 million check to the then standing candidate for Illinois Governorship in 2014, Mr. Rauner.

At 45, this guy is now the 89th richest American worth almost $7 billion, and his business is still booming.
