S’well founder sees profits rise quickly

Starting your own business is often a difficult and scary thing to do, particularly if you are putting a large amount of your savings into developing a new product. S’well water bottles founder Sarah Kauss did just that and found herself amazed at the speed of success she has had since launching the brand of stainless steel bottles in 2010, according to CNN. Kauss was shocked when her product experienced the world famous “Oprah effect” following S’well being included in the list of must have products for the summer of 2014 by O Magazine.

The effect for S’well was an increase in revenue of over 400 percent from 2013 to 2014 as the need to restrict the number of plastic water bottles entering landfills across the world was spotted by the entrepreneur. Kauss herself has carried a metal water bottle for many years, but found herself questioning the common designs, which she felt was more suited to camping activities than being carried by a business executive.

Kauss and her team, which now number more than 30 worked on a redesign of metal water bottles that would be stylish and include insulation to keep liquids cold for 24 hours or warm for 12 hours. The new designs are available in three different sizes and have been kept affordable to make sure the largest number of people are switching away from plastic water bottles to a more environmentally friendly metal design, which is also aesthetically pleasing.
