November 18th, 2015

Did you know that the Nestle Purina PetCare Company is a 2010 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award? This is one of the most prestigious awards given to businesses that have exceptional quality in their products. They won in the manufacturing category for their quality dog food and treats. What makes Purina’s Beneful on purina line so different and special? Well, when you walk in their corporate offices, there are dogs all over the place. Many people bring their dogs to work and allow them to experience the tasteful offerings they have. What a great way to allow dogs to ensure they love what they eat. Some might say that this place has gone to the dogs when they walk in. There are pictures of dogs and animals everywhere. While it may seem like mass confusion to some, it’s all about them so why wouldn’t they be allowed?

Patrick McGinnis is the President and CEO of Purina on purinastore.com. He wants dogs to feel at home in their office spaces, after all their effort goes to and for the dogs and their nutrition. This company employs more than 7,000 people in all their divisions to help oversee their numerous product lines. They produce kitty litter, cat food, dog food, cat and dog foot treats and home-style meals. He feels so strongly about animals being allowed to come to work that he has made national headlines trying to encourage other companies to allow pets in the office space. He states that he feels it makes the employees calmer and more apt to do better work. While many disagree, it’s sure working for him.

You probably see their pet supplies and dog food on the counters at your store, but did you know that the business was founded in 1894 as the Purina-Ralston Company? It was founded in the state of Missouri by William H. Stanford. Williams was a stickler about quality, and he demanded that somehow PURE had to be incorporated into the name. That is how they came up with Purina Beneful. Today, they are consistently trying to reinvent themselves. While they are an older company, some of the processes they do are only 3-4 years old.

Beneful’s line employs nutritional scientists that sit in and evaluate the product lines. They ensure that each part of the process is safe and healthy for your pet. They identify the needs of not only the animal but also the owner. They must create a product that the pet will eat and the owners feel is nutritious and affordable. It’s a delicate mix, but it is something that they have mastered.

This company is crazy about pets. Pets have their own area called the “Bark Yard” or they can play in one of the many designated areas inside. What other company cares about pets so much that they allow their employees to bring them to their job? From the president right down the line, Purina makes pets their business. They have been ranked the best place to work in the country by the St. Louis Business Journal.
