Greg Finch Adds Local, International Experience to Spinal Surgeries

May 31st, 2017

Some of the most commonly performed orthopaedic surgeries in Australia include spinal surgeries for those who have broken or damaged vertebrae and necks, knee surgery, which is one of the fastest growing fields in the country, and hip surgery, especially for broken or fractured hips. As the population ages, the need for surgeries to correct the results of aging bones and ligaments grows.

A knee replacement surgery is one of the most common procedures by volume in Australia. There can be partial or total knee replacements, depending on how much of the knee has been damaged and needs to be resurfaced, in a procedure also called arthroplasty. Hip surgery is also very common and was one of the fastest growing health procedures on the private insurance market in Australia, with annual growth rates as high as 19 percent. It is usually used after a fall, and a fractured hip is replaced with a metal ball and socket, but also as a way of relieving pain from arthritis.

Greg Finch is an orthopedic surgeon in Douglas. He has earned his Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or FRACS qualifications after several years of intensive surgical study. Greg Finch performs mainly minimally invasive spinal surgeries but is qualified in all manner of spinal surgeries including spinal fusion, and bone grafting.

Greg Finch also brings international experience into the field of spinal surgeries. He worked with doctors in the UK, USA, and Germany for two years after receiving his FRACS and learned from some of the top spinal orthopedic surgeons in the world. Greg Finch is a member of the Spine Society of Australia, the North America Spine Society and a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is affiliated with the Rockhampton Public Hospital, the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital, and the Nambour Public Hospital.
