Canada’s Dr. Cameron Clokie Demonstrates why Regenerative Medicine is a Promising Medical Field

October 17th, 2017

If a list of scholars that have immensely contributed to the field of regenerative medicine was to be drawn up, it would be incomplete without the name of Dr. Cameron Clokie. As early as 2005, Dr. Clokie was using the techniques of regenerative medicine to regrow the jaw bones of patients who had lost their jaw bones to cancer or any other diseases. Learn more about Cameron Clokie:

One of Dr. Clokie’s patients, Peter Russel, is an embodiment of the limitless possibilities associated with regenerative medicine. Russel had lost the bone along the bottom right of his jaw to a benign tumor.

But Dr. Clokie, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with interest in regenerative medicine applied to reconstruct musculoskeletal tissue, reconstructed Russel’s jaw. After Dr. Clokie’s procedure, Russel—60 years then—spotted a chiseled jawline many people would mistake for a man half his age. The procedure left him with almost invisible scars. Dr. Clokie is a staunch advocate of regenerative medicine and to prove that regenerative medicine is superior to traditional surgery, he often compares the two fields of medicine. While Russel had his jaw reconstructed the regenerative medicine way, McFarlane—another victim of benign tumor—had her jaw rebuilt using traditional surgery. Russel spent four hours in the operating room, two nights in the hospital, and two weeks later, he had resumed his normal life. However, McFarlane spent over 19 hours in the operating room, two weeks in the hospital, and she was scheduled to visit the hospital at a later date for further attention regarding her jaw.

Crunchbase believes that Dr. Clokie believes that regenerative medicine is the way to go. Researcher Molly Shoichet echoed his sentiments. Shoichet referred to Dr. Clokie’s regimen as “an important innovation…”

Presently, Dr. Clokie is the CEO of Induce Biologics Inc. The firm is interested in using regenerative medicine to offer innovative solutions for musculoskeletal reconstruction. He has over 30 years of experience in academic dentistry and clinical practice.

Before his retirement this year, Dr. Clokie was the head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is a revered scholar with many published papers and presentations on regenerative medicine.
